About

The Office of Public Affairs showcases Mississippi State University's impactful and influential stories, messages of student learning, comprehensive research and service addressing complex local and global challenges.

OPA is the university’s principal brand curator. The team manages the university's Visual Identity Standards, produces branded marketing projects and works with colleges, divisions, departments, centers and other units on delivering on-brand assets.

The award-winning staff also provides leadership for strategic and crisis communications; news and media relations; universitywide publications including MSU’s Alumnus magazine; and digital and social media content development including the university's website.

OPA’s talented writers, editors, brand strategists, photographers and graphic designers support these areas and provide services—most of which are complimentary—to the campus community.

In addition, OPA provides administrative leadership to MSU’s University Television Center and noncommercial campus radio station WMSV-FM 91.1. The Television Center’s MSU Films initiative is a nationally-recognized, Emmy-winning leader in documentary and short film production. WMSV is a community station with reach across the Golden Triangle, playing a Triple A Music format and serving as a training ground for students.

Shown receiving the awards for OPA were MSU’s Checky Herrington, OPA creative director and marketing research analyst; Harriet V. Laird, OPA associate director; and Sid Salter, OPA director and MSU’s chief communications officer
